Allies All-Star Spotlight: Sue Nandram, CSS

Throughout the Allies organization, exceptional, talented, and dedicated team members make the services and support we provide possible. Allies wants to recognize the people who make the work we do possible. In each issue of Allies: Keeping in Touch, we will highlight someone who is doing incredible work and who puts the “Ally” in “Allies.”

This month, we are honoring Sue Nandram, CSS. Sue came to Allies to care for an individual she previously supported, after he was admitted into an Allies residential program.

Question: How long have you been with Allies?

Sue: I started with Allies in 2009 or 2010. When I first came to America, Zach did not live too far from where I lived. Zach’s aide was returning to their home country. I was interviewed by Zach’s parents and they hired me on the spot. I came into this field knowing nothing at all.

Question: What is your favorite part of your role?

Sue: My favorite part is just taking care of the wants and needs of those I support while helping them to achieve their dreams in this world.

Question: Where do you look for, or find, inspiration?

Sue: My inspirations come from those we serve.

Question: Is there anyone who is part of the organization that you look up to? Why?

Sue: I really look up to Beth Lopez and Anil Singh. Beth is one of the first people I interacted with when I joined the agency. I really look up to Anil, he is very supportive.

Question: Please describe one of your fondest memories working with Allies. (Staff, individual, both)

Sue: I was a little skeptical when Zach moved into the group home. Seeing how well he adjusted was amazing to me. He adjusted very well, which made me very happy.

Question: Do you have any hidden talents?

Sue: I like playing badminton and spending time outdoors. I also like to do quiet things like reading.

Question: If you could choose any super power, which would you pick?

Sue: I would learn the power to master new skills more quickly so that I can help more people.

Question: Do you have anything else you would like to share? Anyone you would like to shout-out?

Sue: I made a promise to Zach’s mom that I would never leave him. I intend to take care of him and work with him for as long as possible.
