The New Horizons Essential Managerial Skills Program
This unique program was developed in-house at Allies, to enhance the professional skills and knowledge of our managerial staff. The program supports managers in developing facilitative and influential relationships with their Community Support Staff (CSS); and promotes their competency in teaching and guiding CSS in their roles.
New Horizons is comprised of 12 modules, with each module defining a core set of competencies based on best practices within human services. Each module features an introductory page containing learning objectives and key terms, and a list of skills and tasks to perform. As program participants learn, they role play, demonstrating procedures and how they would manage various situations.
The program covers a wide range of topics that support managers in excelling in their roles, communicating with others and maintaining their own well-being. Topic areas include an introduction to managerial and communication styles, problem-solving, time management, delegation, diversity, documentation, preventing harassment in the workplace, trauma-informed care and more. In addition, modules teach managers about motivation, coping with difficult people and managing work-related stress.
Direct Support Professional Certification Program
Allies’ DSP Certification Program is a self-enrichment program that supports current Community Support Staff and Community Integration Support Staff who would like to gain additional knowledge in the field, enhance professional skills beyond required training, and learn about themselves along the way.
Courses for this program are conveniently offered online through Relias Learning Management Software. Attendees also connect with each other through discussion boards and in-person sessions during each phase of learning. The program is split into four quarters, each quarter spanning 3 months.
In addition to the benefits of gaining advanced knowledge in the field of human services, and the ease of virtual access to the instructor, participants can earn up to an additional $1.50 per hour upon successful completion of the program!
