Earlier this year, Herbert Delaine was recognized for his long tenure working with Burlington OTC.
Delaine has worked with Burlington OTC for more than 35 years. In September, Delaine was recognized at the 2024 ACCSES New Jersey Training and Achievement Conference, and received an award for being the longest-tenured employee at his company.
Delaine works from 1 p.m. through 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. He prefers to arrive to work a little early so that he is able to take his time getting ready for his shift.
“He really enjoys his employment, it helps him to be able to travel and live comfortably,” Cheryl Hyde, who has supported Delaine at his residence for about 17 years, said.
“His job means the world to him,” Hyde said. “This is what he lives for.”
Delaine’s dedication and love for his job is so genuine that he is reluctant to take any time off, unless it is for traveling.
One of Delaine’s favorite pastimes is traveling. He takes one or two trips each year with The Guided Tour, Inc., and he has traveled all over the world. A few of his favorite trips have been to Alaska and Hawaii, he said.
At work, Delaine is responsible for removing the trash and recycling from three floors in the building he works. The most common items Delaine helps get properly recycled include scrap paper, empty boxes, and aluminum cans.
“After I do the recycling, I am able to take a break, and then I go back and take care of the trash,” Delaine said.
For Delaine, independence is hugely important in both his personal and professional lives. Each morning, he walks around his apartment complex to keep active. On weekends, he sometimes takes his bike out for a ride.
For Delaine, going to work is what he lives for. He greatly enjoys the time it allows him to get out of his apartment. When folks ask him if he is considering retirement, he responds with a hearty “absolutely not!”
“I look forward to attending the company holiday party every year,” Delaine said.
Congratulations to Mr. Delaine on 35 years of great work!
