Throughout New Jersey and Delaware, Allies staff members are working tirelessly to serve those we support.
Each month, Allies recognizes one person who has been nominated by their supervisor and/or colleagues. Please join us in recognizing the folks who make the amazing work we do possible.
This month, we are recognizing Sharia Hill, Support Manager!

What is your favorite part of your role?
My favorite part is seeing the individuals we support grow, accomplish their goals, and experience things that bring them happiness. I also really enjoy working with staff and being able to support them, encourage them, and help them become the best support professionals they can be.
Where do you look for, or find, inspiration?
I find inspiration in the individuals we serve. Their strength, accomplishments, personalities, and ability to overcome challenges remind me why the work we do is so important.
Is there anyone who is part of the organization that you look up to? Why?
Erica Hill for different reasons. I especially admire she has dedicated years of her life to this work and continued to show compassion and commitment every day. There is always something to learn from the people around you, whether they are in leadership, direct support, or another role.
How do you think your role has helped to shape the lives of those you serve?
I hope my role has helped the individuals we support feel heard, respected, safe, and valued. Sometimes the biggest impact comes from the little things like encouraging someone to try something new, helping them reach a personal goal, advocating for what they need, or simply being there for them. Being able to help create opportunities for greater independence and a meaningful life is something I’m very proud of.
Where do you think you have the biggest impact in your role?
I think my biggest impact is through leadership and consistency. After 15-plus years in the field, I understand how important it is to build trust with the individuals we support, the guardians, and the staff who work with them. I try to lead by example, communicate openly, and make sure the focus always comes back to providing quality, person-centered support.
Can you tell me about a professional experience or accomplishment you are proud of?
One of the things I’m most proud of is being able to watch the individuals and staff I’ve worked with grow over the years. Seeing an individual accomplish something they once struggled with, or seeing a staff member gain confidence and develop into a strong support professional, is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that I played even a small part in those successes means a lot to me.
Please describe one of your fondest memories working with Allies.
Some of my fondest memories are the everyday moments that may seem small to other people but mean so much to us—celebrating birthdays, accomplishments, holidays, outings, or simply sharing a laugh with the individuals. After 13 years, there are so many memories that stand out, but what makes them special is the relationships and connections built along the way.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I’d say one of my hidden talents is being able to stay calm and patient when things get challenging. After working in this field for more than 15 years, I’ve learned that sometimes you must take a step back, think things through, and approach a situation from a different perspective. I’m also pretty good at finding humor and keeping a positive attitude when it’s needed.
If you could choose any superpower, which would you pick?
I would choose the ability to make sure everyone feels understood. Communication can be difficult sometimes, especially when someone has a hard time expressing what they need or how they feel. Being able to instantly understand what someone is trying to communicate would be an amazing superpower.
Do you have anything else you would like to share? Anyone you would like to shout-out?
I would just like to say that I’m grateful for the 13 years I’ve spent with Allies and for all the people who have been part of that journey. I want to give a shout-out to the individuals we support, because they are the reason we do what we do, and to my Green Team who show up every day and give their time, patience, and compassion. It truly takes a team, and I’m proud to be part of one.
Recently, Allies leadership received a letter honoring Sharia for the work she does. Read the full letter here:
We are writing to express our appreciation and recognition for the house manager Sharia Hill at our daughter’s home at Green St.
It is not often that you encounter someone who combines professionalism, compassion, dedication, and genuine care the way Sharia does. She consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that the housemates are safe, comfortable, respected, and well cared for. Her kindness and patience are evident in every interaction, and she treats the individuals in her care with dignity and compassion.
As parents, it gives us tremendous peace of mind, knowing that our daughter T is in a safe environment led by someone who truly cares for her well being. Sharia is attentive to the housemates individual needs and communicates well .
The positive impact Sharia has had on T’s life has been truly amazing. Because of her kindness, encouragement, and genuine care T feels valued, supported and happy. As parents there is no greater gift than knowing our daughter is in the hands of someone who truly believes in her and wants her to flourish.
People who make such a meaningful difference in the lives of others often do so quietly and without seeking recognition. That is why we felt it was important to take the time to acknowledge Sharia’s outstanding work. She is a tremendous asset to your organization and is truly deserving of recognition for her compassion, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to those in her care.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and for recognizing the value of such an exceptional employee.
